Negroni Sbagliato: Refreshing Proof Happy Accidents Exist
Forget spritz for a sec. This retro Italian aperitif is the best way to set your appetite alight.
Known in Italian as an ‘incorrect’ or ‘mistaken’ Negroni, I can’t think of a screw-up more satisfying than the Sbagliato. Invented unwittingly at Milan’s legendary Bar Basso, the ruby red cocktail changed the course of mixology history when barman Mirko Stoccheto reached for gin, but poured prosecco instead.
Expect the signature bitter citrus oomph of a classic Negroni, intensified by the refreshing sweetness of a good bottle of bubbles. Salute!
Ingredients
30ml Sweet Vermouth
30ml Campari
30ml Prosecco
Step 1 Fill an old fashioned glass or Champagne flute with ice and add Campari and Vermouth. Top up with Prosecco and stir gently.
Step 2 Garnish with an olive and a slice of blood orange.
Step 3 Cin cin!
Get creative: The Negroni Sbagliato is all about the unconventional, so why not get creative with yours by adding a bay leaf or sprig of rosemary?
