Discover New Dishes Through… Your DNA?
Ever thought there was more to you than meets the eye? Are you a bit Swedish? Portuguese, perhaps? Or maybe just a lot more Welsh than you thought?
This week, accompanied by Professor Green and AJ Odudu, Gousto is helping the nation discover new dishes they’ve never tried before, based on their DNA.
So, inspired by their culinary discoveries, I’ve asked some specially selected members of the Gousto family to delve into the foods of their past, and share the recipes that remind them of home, of their heritage and of relatives they may never have met.
Think of it as Who Do You Think You Are? Except this time, with flavour.
21-Day Aged Sirloin Steak, Chimichurri & Sweet Potato Wedges
“Eating steak and chimichurri brings back memories of my beloved Argentina. Even though I’m fully committed to eating less meat, how could I resist this dish? It’s in my DNA.” – Jimena, People Operations Manager
Filipino Chicken Adobo & Vegetable Rice
“I was born and raised in the UK, so I don’t really eat Filipino dishes unless I’m at my parents’ place. I know this adobo recipe says it’s “Filipino-inspired,” but it tastes almost exactly like my mum’s cooking (almost!), and reminds me of my childhood.” – Razel, UX Designer
Pizza Calabrese with Spicy ‘Nduja
“I’ve always had a love for all types of pizza, but the Pizza Calabrese with Spicy ‘Nduja ranks at the top for me (so delish!). This all makes sense now, as I’ve found out my great-grandfather came from the ‘modern birthplace of pizza’ itself; Naples. Guess it just runs in the family.” – Michael, CC Team Leader
Portuguese-Style Pork Bifana Sandwich
“Nothing screams home like a good Bifana, so when I saw this one on the menu, I had to try it. I have to say the caramelised onions were a new twist, but those flavours! One bite, and I was right back home.” – Daniela, Graphic Designer
Tandoori Fish, Mint Raita and Kachumber Salad
“I saw the word kachumber on the menu, and was immediately transported home to Tanzania. We call it “kachumbari” there, and it’s a delightful onion and tomato salad that we eat with grilled meat. I must say Gousto’s version with fish is super delicious… or as we’d say in Swahili: tamu!” – Fozia, CC Team
Turkish Lamb & Dill-Infused Bulgur
“This dish brings back fond memories for me. The flavours remind me of times with my family in Turkey, and inspires me to call them up. Not just to ask them how they are, but what they’re cooking… except now they know I’ve made this, they’re calling me to find out what I’m cooking!” – Adem, IT Engineer
