Chocolate Dough Balls
Gousto’s DIY pizza dough doesn’t just make perfect crispy-yet-chewy homemade pizzas. We think about all the pizza-bilities, including these dough balls, served fresh out of the oven, with a hot molten chocolate centre.
Because really, who doesn’t love a dessert with a melty centre? For the best results, eat these warm (not piping hot!) so you get a hit of liquid chocolate when you take that first bite.
Chocolate pizza dough balls
Serves 4 as a dessert
Cook time: 50 minutes (plus overnight)
Ingredients
Our no-knead, no-prove pizza dough (full recipe)
1 tsp caster sugar
200g chocolate spread
Method
Step 1: The night before you want to make your dough balls, add the chocolate spread to a piping bag, and pipe 16 teaspoon-sized drops onto a lined baking tray. Then put your tray in the freezer until you make your dough balls – this is your chocolate filling.
Step 2: Preheat the oven to 240ºC/ 220ºC (fan)/ 475ºF/ Gas 9. Then whip up a batch of no-knead, no-prove pizza dough according to the recipe.
Step 3: Tip the dough ball out onto a floured work surface and cut into 16 pieces (no need to knead!). Toss each dough ball in flour until lightly coated.
Step 4: One by one, flatten each ball slightly, and place a piece of frozen chocolate spread filling in the centre. Then pinch the dough around it to seal it completely (make sure you patch up any holes). Shape into a ball and set to one side.
Step 5: Heat an oven safe frying pan on the stove with a drizzle of flavourless oil, then add your dough balls. Leave a gap between each dough ball to allow them to rise. Cook the dough balls on the stove for 5-6 minutes, then move the pan into the oven and bake for a further 12-14 minutes until golden brown.
Step 6: Sprinkle with caster sugar and toss gently to coat. Serve warm, and get ready to impress your guests.
