The Old Saint Nick Cocktail
You may well already know how to make an old fashioned. It’s a classic cocktail that’s been around for well over a century – one consequence of that is that the way to make a ‘perfect’ old fashioned is much debated, even though it’s not a particularly complicated drink to make.
As there’s no single right way to get it right, we’ve put together a twist on the traditional old fashioned made specially for the Christmas festive period, and fittingly named it an Old Saint Nick. It’s similar to a typical old fashioned, but with a boost of festive flavour by swapping the cherry garnish for cranberry, white sugar for brown, and Angostura bitters for orange bitters. Check out the recipe below:
You’ll Need:
- bourbon
- 2 fresh cranberries
- an orange
- ice cubes
- orange bitters
Method:
1. Add a teaspoon of brown sugar and a small dash of water to a short glass and stir the ice cubes rapidly to cool the ice and help the sugar to dissolve
2. Splash a little orange bitters over the ice cubes once most of the sugar has dissolved, then add a couple of fresh cranberries, a twist of orange peel and a few large ice cubes
3. Pour over the bourbon and stir to combine, before serving
