Ham, Cheese & Marmite Croissant Bake
This recipe is inspired by the French classic croque monsieur, but we’ve added our own Gousto twist! You’ll be making a cheesy sauce with eggs, cream and our secret ingredient – Marmite, before pouring it all over torn croissants & ham. You’ll add a final sprinkling of gruyère cheese before baking until golden and crispy.
Ham & Cheesy Marmite Croissant Bake
Cook time: 40 mins
Difficulty: Easy
Ingredients
4 croissants (torn into large bite-sized pieces)
3 eggs
4 ham slices (torn into large bite-sized pieces)
150ml milk
150ml single cream
50g cheddar (grated)
50g gruyère (grated)
2 tbsp Marmite
Method
Step 1 Preheat the oven to 200ºC (180ºC fan). Once the oven is hot, add the torn croissants to a medium-sized ovenproof dish and bake for 10 mins – this will dry out the croissants and help them to soak up more sauce.
Step 2 Meanwhile, add the eggs, milk and single cream to a large bowl with a pinch of black pepper. Add 1 tbsp Marmite and whisk together until well combined, then stir in the grated cheddar.
Step 3 Once the croissant pieces are out of the oven, add them and the torn ham to the cheesy sauce and give everything a really good mix up. Pour the mixture into the ovenproof dish and arrange the croissants so some are sticking up slightly (these will go crispy later!).
Step 4 Sprinkle over the gruyère cheese and drizzle with 1 tbsp Marmite, then cover the dish with foil and bake in the oven for 20 min. After 20 min, remove the foil and bake for a further 10 min or until golden brown. Serve piping hot!
